What you'll do
Step aboard a true New York City icon at Deno’s Wonder Wheel in Coney Island. Opened in 1920, this historic Ferris wheel has delighted more than 40 million riders and remains one of Brooklyn’s most recognisable landmarks.
Rising 150 feet above the boardwalk, the Wonder Wheel delivers classic seaside thrills alongside fantastic views. At the top, you’ll be treated to sweeping sights of Coney Island Beach and the Atlantic Ocean, with the Manhattan skyline visible in the distance on clear days.
What really sets Deno’s Wonder Wheel apart is its mix of swinging and stationary cars. Feeling adventurous? Choose a red or blue swinging car that glides along the inner tracks of the wheel. Prefer something a little calmer? The white stationary cars offer a smooth, scenic ride around the outer rim. Either way, it’s a nostalgic New York experience you won’t forget.
Facts
Denos D. Vourderis promised his sweetheart Lula that he would buy her the Wonder Wheel if she would agree to marry him. She said yes and Deno spent years working at Coney Island and when the original owner of the Wonder Wheel decided he was going to retire, he chose Deno to take over for him. Thus, he got the Wonder Wheel for Lula after all.
Deno's Wonder Wheel has a perfect safety record since being built in 1920.
Coney Island's beaches were all private until 1923.
