    The Permanent Collection
    Along with the featured exhibitions, there is also a permanent collection of items donated as well as the miraculous account from a survivor named John Stastny.

    Foundation Hall
    The museum's largest room, 15,000 square feet with a 60 feet-tall ceiling is home to a portion of a surviving retaining wall of the original World Trade Center that withstood the devastation of 9/11. The Last Column stands 36-feet high and is covered with mementos, memorial inscriptions, and missing posters placed there by ironworkers, rescue workers, and others.

    Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you gaze into the memorial pools on the North and South end. There are many other visual treats, including the 80-foot columns known as the Tridents and the International Flags displaying over 180 United Nations states which once were hanging in the lobby of the old Twin Towers before the attack.

    Q: Are there any restrictions on what I can bring into the museum?
    A: Yes, large bags, backpacks, strollers and umbrellas are not allowed inside the museum. Food and drinks are not allowed in certain sections of the memorial.

    Q4: Does the 9/11 Memorial offer any educational programs for students and teachers?
    A: Yes! The 9/11 Memorial offers a variety of educational programs designed for students of all ages including field trips, workshops, guided tours and more. There are also special teacher-led resources available to help teachers prepare lesson plans related to September 11th.

    Getting your ticket

    On the plaza between the Memorial and Museum, enter the box office line to redeem your pass for an admission time slot. During busy periods like summer and the holidays, we recommend visiting as early in the day as possible.

    Time to kill before your admission slot? 
    Why not get a few more things ticked off nearby while you wait! We recommend shopping and dining around the Oculus; a walk around Battery Park; a stroll down Wall Street; or the free Staten Island Ferry for views of the Statue of Liberty from the water.

    Your pass includes general admission to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Guided tours are available for an additional fee payable directly to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

    Tips for visiting the 9/11 Memorial & Museum

    • Give yourself two hours to experience every exhibit at the museum.
    • Food and drinks are not permitted inside the museum but there is a café inside the Museum Pavilion. 
    • The historical exhibition may not be suitable for children under the age of 10.
    • A limited amount of wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis for no fee.

    The Museum is open Wednesday to Monday (closed Tuesday): 9AM - 7PM 
    Please note: the box office closes at 5PM on Mondays and 5:30PM from Wednesday to Sunday.

    The Memorial is open daily: 8AM - 8PM. 

    Hours are subject to change. We recommend checking the museum’s website for the most up-to-date schedule.

    Closings & holidays

    The museum is closed on Tuesdays, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. It is also closed to the general public on September 11.
