Facts
In 1978, residents living between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges decided to give their neighborhood a name to strengthen the area's identity the community considered two acronyms. DANYA which stands for District Around the Navy Yard Annex, and the winning name, DUMBO.
DUMBO used to have its own railroad to transport goods around the city. The tracks also ran inside certain manufacturing buildings. You can see the remains on certain cobblestone roads to this day.
