Empire State Building Observatory

Tips for visiting the Empire State Building

  • Per CDC guidelines, the Empire State Building Observatory requires all guests ages 2 and up to wear facial coverings.
  • The Empire State Building has free WiFi throughout, so you can share your experience as you explore.
  • When it comes to dining, drinks and snacks, there are several options. Take your pick from the STATE Grill and Bar, Tacombi and Starbucks Reserve.
  • Signage is available in nine languages – English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin.
  • You can watch the Empire State on a live earthcam view.
  • The Empire State Building is fully ADA compliant. There are handicapped restrooms on the 86th-floor observatory along with ramps, lowered viewing walls and binoculars. Motorized and non-motorized wheelchairs are permitted.

  • A limited number of wheelchairs are available on both Liberty and Ellis Island for no fee, but on a first-come, first-served basis. You will need an ID to use as a deposit.

Present your pass at the 'reserve ticket' entrance at your chosen depature point (remember that your pass must be valid when scanned at the time of your visit). Proceed through the security screening facility before boarding the ferry.

If you wish to add access to those parts of the statue, you will need book 'Crown Reserve' and/or 'Pedestal Reserve' tickets independently, and make reservations as soon as possible as space is limited and tours often sell out months in advance.

  • The morning is the most crowded time to visit. We suggest visiting during an alternate time.
  • MoMA is accessible and wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are free of charge.
  • Our checkroom is currently closed. Scooters, skateboards, rolling bags, and all items over 11×17×5” [28×43×13 cm] are not permitted in the Museum. All bags will be inspected upon arrival. Please wear backpacks on the front of your chest or carry them to the side.
  • Photography is permitted, but video is not. 
  • There are dining opportunities within the museum including The Modern restaurant, Café 2, and The Terrace Cafe.
